Legal case studies
The Finnish Market Court has decided opting for a paper-based invoices is a basic right and consumers opting for it are not allowed to be charged extra for paper invoices.
The case concerned a leading mobile phone operator ELISA which had decided to charge €1,90 per paper invoice. The Court requested the company to cease adding the charge to invoices with a sanction of €100 000.00 if they do not comply.
ELISA justified their practice with other competing companies doing so plus with environmental savings and support for moving to a “knowledge society”. This was not sufficient for the Court.
