A campaign ‘My Invoice, My Choice’ was launched in June 2015 and ended in 2018. The campaign is advocating for the freedom of
consumers to choose how to receive administrative information and for a more consumer-friendly legislative framework.
Belgian law (circulaire n°14/2014) requires that companies may only switch to electronic bills and statements if the customer agrees to the change. The consumer always has the right to refuse electronic invoicing and can request to receive bills on paper. The customer cannot be charged for maintaining its paper invoice.
The campaign aims at raising awareness among Belgian citizens on their freedom to choose how to receive their invoices and administrative information. The campaign is also calling on the legislator to adopt a more consumer-friendly legislative framework. The campaign features statistics from a consumer survey showing that 80% of Belgian consumers find it important to be able to freely choose how to receive their invoice and only 40% are not aware that they have this right. To inform Belgian consumers, the campaign calls on them to sign an online petition. The objective is to include in the legislative framework an explicit opt-in for the consumer to switch from paper to digital.
